I thought you only allow abandonware releases that are over ten years old on the FTP. So how come you would say that anything is acceptable on the archive? Or is that not what you meant?
And is it a bad thing to contribute large releases to the FTP? I mean files that are 1GB or more. Because there are a lot of releases in the archive that are in gigabytes.

If you read again carefully what he said, you'll see this:

1) You can upload any piece of original material of any age at any time.

2) If it doesn't fit the site's abandonware rules, it will be withheld from public FTP until it does.

Oh okay, that all makes sense. It's always good to keep things in the freezer until they're fully ready to be thawed out and served to the public

Like i said in a previous post i know nothing about coding ect.... i was hoping for something simple.
It's hard to avoid programming, but setting up an electron app isn't super complicated. If you're interested in tech, programming is something you should definitely look into!
If you just want to have the look and feel, try starting web browsers in web app mode.

For Chrome, you can automatically create a shortcut by menu>more tools> add to desktop, or manually create a shortcut with the target set to C:\[path-to-chrome]\chrome.exe --app="file://[path-to-document]/[document.html]"

For Firefox, use C:\[path-to-firefox]\firefox.exe -chrome "file://[path-to-document]/[document.html]"

You can also add icons & pin them to start or taskbar so they look and feel just like a standalone app.

OS/2 laptops?

So I've been reading a bit on OS/2 and that made me curious since I've never seen any, has it ever been sold preinstalled on laptops or even desktop computers? I can't seem to find much information on that, mostly only about eComStation which doesn't really interest me, since there doesn't seem to have lots of things new and all, thanks!

The Longhorn Kernel-Mode Timebomb

For a while every time I mention it, some users have scoffed at the idea of a "secret/special" kernel-mode timebomb present within many pre-reset longhorn builds. I have now evidence of its existence:

https://www.betaarchive.com/imageupload/2019-05/1557007920.th.17164.png
This came up in a Longhorn 4042 install. All employable methods to disable the timebomb have been used. This is not faked.
Lenovo x230t with i7-3520m. The computer does not restart automatically unlike a proper kemode.

There is no circumstance in particular that triggers it, other than being run past expiry date. Maybe it comes up after 2 hours of use, maybe it comes up after 6. It just comes up whenever.
In Longhorn 4033 in particular, the timebomb involves many services directly started by Winlogon. They will cease to function when the timebomb is set to go off. Then some time later, the above blue-screen invades the screen.

For some reason this special timebomb does not work in virtual machines. Only on true hardware which is why nobody else has ever seen it. I'm currently looking in on this, and I would like to know of other user's perspectives. As per forum rules, this is not a request for a debomb. But information on how it works.

What he wanted is a portable app with the HTML and Javascript contained within it. The game he sent me is a Windows 8 UWP app in HTML and Javascript.

The best way to avoid programming is to use some sort of converter to convert HTML to EXE.

In fact, I made a contribution that wasn't an abandonware at the time I uploaded it last year. It was Hasbro Family Game Night Suite that can with six board games from 2009 I believe, though I got it a later. If that's the case, then it should be online on the FTP server sometime this year.

NT4 has a similar bugcheck that is tied to the kernel synchronizing its internal clock (with the CMOS clock, even though the generally more accurate system clock is also available). The system won't immediately fail upon expiry, but will set a flag that will fall through to the bug check the next time the system decides to synchronize its internal clock, which might be whenever. Maybe it's related, or not...

Yeah, their origins are pretty elusive. While people have claimed that they're official concept sounds that got leaked, I have yet to see legitimate evidence/proof to back those claims up other than them sounding "professional". While I agree with that, there are talented amateur musicians/sound designers out there, so we can't exactly jump to conclusions that they're official.

In conclusion they were either leaked concept sounds, or they came from some transformation pack (NOT Vista Inspirat, that doesn't even have all of its sounds). People have suggested Longhorn Refined, though its link has been down for 14+ years so there's no way to confirm that.

Also Longhorn Reloaded had its own sound scheme as far as I know.
