I still feel like XP could be revived at ANY TIME.

How do you think that's possible, given that XP uses a very different kernel than it's successors?

Isn’t Windows XP an NT-based OS? I get that during the Longhorn development, the project reseted and later became Windows Vista in the end. Windows Vista, 7, 8.0, 8.1 and 10 are all also NT-based Windows.

I'm very interested in getting all of these, and actually I have been looking for Lotus download links for ages, so I'd be glad if you could provide me with a download link to every release you have.

However, only older releases up to Lotus Notes 8.5.0 will be accepted as contributions.

Thanks!

This is not true. Why are members spreading this nonsense that BA will not accept releases that are newer than 10 years old? We accept releases of any age, regardless if it's 1979 or 2019. We will however not release anything to the public newer than 10 years old and according to our abandonware guidelines but that's not the same as we won't accept them at all. In due time everything that is newer will be released as it fulfills our abandonware requirements.

Stop spreading this nonsense.

MORE EXCITING NEWS! I can run Mozilla Firefox 53.0.3 on Windows 2000! 54 and later shows a XPCOM error.

For some reason some members has gotten the idea that BetaArchive doesn't accept anything that doesn't fit within our definition of abandonware, and spreading this info to other members.

This claim is absolutely not true!

We will accept uploads of any age. Doesn't matter if you have an original floppy of Pong for a 8086 PC released in 1979 or the newest Hitman or Battlefield on installation DVDs, all are acceptable!

While we will accept titles of any age only those that fit within the abandonware rule will be put for public access on the FTP. Everything else will be archived in cold storage until it's time for a release.

So if you have a bunch of original titles of a recent date lying around then by all means, upload them as well! It's perfectly fine and they will be accepted. I will soon setup a new database with only those titles so you all can see what's stored as well, but until then please ask me before you commit to a large upload.

Thank you for your time, and all your contributions!

I managed to get build 73g working with my original specs.

After booting to the OS for the first time and then shutting it down, I extracted the C:\CHICAGO directory from the disk image using 7-Zip, rebooted until the files were corrupted, and then ran SCANDISK from the Windows 95 boot disk. SCANDISK seemed to fix the corruption, after which I moved my extracted C:\CHICAGO directory back onto the image. Now it boots just fine.

I cannot figure out how to do this with build 58s because when I open the disk image in 7-Zip, it only shows two files with the extension .fat corresponding to the file system (NTFS disks do this too), and after another reboot, I can see all the files again but only after the C:\CHICAGO directory is corrupted. However, I think I will stick with build 73g since the Sound Blaster 16 and S3 drivers work for me on this build.

This is a very interesting issue, so if you could upload your 86Box config file and the disk image you're using, maybe we could figure this out.

For all 58s installs I had, you can only see FAT files using 7-zip. WinImage can open the disk fine so use WinImage. I haven't had any trouble installing those releases in 86Box.

Not sure if this is supposed to be here in offtopic, but I'll ask here anyway.

I came across the fake Longhorn sounds again, and got curious. Where did they came from? And how did they get associated with Longhorn?

Now, there are some pieces out there. Rumor has it that they date from 2003 or so. Were they a part of Longhorn Reloaded perhaps?
Also, I've seen some speculation that they did originate from MS, which I can sort of believe. They are some pretty high quality sounds, so maybe?

Anyway, just a little curiosity of mine.

For those wondering what I'm talking about, here are the sounds.

There are two older threads that ask the same question:

Some more information and answers can be found in those threads, so I think they answer your question.

While thanking you for clarifying it, I'd suggest you to update the forum rules for the Requests/Offers section, as they reflect policies which seem to be no longer in effect.

In fact, I've always relied on those rules. Until, like, now...

Windows Neptune is older than Windows XP, so I don't know why they used an upgrade from Windows XP.
Neptune's version is higher than XP's - Neptune is NT 5.50, while XP is NT 5.01.

Technically, you can't upgrade to Neptune. The only leaked build (5.5.5111.1) does not allow you to use the setup program for upgrades. You can only install it as a clean install.

Yes, those refer to offers and requests on the forum. You may however still upload newer stuff to the FTP as you're not required to make offers before an upload. We don't want people requesting stuff that violates our abandonware rules as we don't allow the sharing of them, but we will archive them for future release.

It's just like saying that a PC with Windows 8 can outperform the same exact PC with Windows 10. This is actually the case in my Dell Inspiron 660. Anyways, I'm trying to install Windows Vista in a VM, but I'm running Windows 10 and I'm not sure which program supports Aero. I know Hyper-V does not.

I also think Windows vista is an underrated system. It was the first OS with a futuristic design because there were for example Aero or Flip3d, it just has a nice design.
